My latest series of decorated serving spoons with a gilded heart.
These were carved from spalted black birch - betula lenta from my folk’s property in Upstate New York.
Black birch is an amazing tree full of medicinal properties in the bark and where the flavor wintergreen comes from.
Decorated with milk paint - I’ve been really into painting multicolored layers, and then knocking some of the top layer to reveal contrasting colors below. This spoon is a merlot over green.
Finished in Linseed Oil
